In
1958, HAW-DI-I FOODS COMPANY was founded in
Tainan and located in Southern Taiwan. Initially,
the company’s product line was limited to
Barbecue Powder. Later, it began to pack Barbecue
Sauce in hermetically sealed containers. A
short time later, Mr. Liu Lai-Chin, the chairman
and founder of the company, began investment
in the production of canned vegetables and
other products. |

a joint-venture enterprise to a sole proprietorship,
and moved its production facilities to a new
location. “Haw-Di-I Foods Processing Factory”
was established as the new name and “Bull
Head” and “Five-Petal Plum” were registered
as its trademarks. To cope with the demand
for agriculture development in Taiwan, the
company began the production of “Bull Head
Cream Style Corn”, which was the first commercially
packed canned corn in Taiwan. |
In
1973, the company stopped packing many of
the other canned food items and instead focused
its research and marketing on the best selling
Barbecue Sauce and Cream Style Corn. In 1974,
the company initiated semi-automatic filling
and seaming to increase the production capacity.. |
In
1982, due to expanding production and sales,
the company again moved to new facilities
at the present site in Tai-Ying Village, Hsin-Shih
Hsiang, Tainan County, and changed its name
to “Haw-Di-I Foods Co. Ltd.” |
In
1990, due to increasing production costs for
packing agricultural products in Taiwan, the
company ceased packing canned Cream Style
Corn and started importing canned cream-style
and whole kernel corn directly form Chiquita
Processed Foods, LLC, USA. In the same year,
instructed by Mr. Liu, the chairman, the company
began to import the US-made Chicken Broth
from Campbell Soup Company and Hormel Foods,
to provide the modern families with more convenient
and delicious products and enable consumers
to have more nutritious and healthy foods. |
